Wolf Wolfensberger Summer Institute on Moral Issues
Welcome!
We are glad you are interested in this Summer Institute 2-day workshop!
Below you will find a detailed description of the content and registration for follow the description.
Content Outline
In our society, there is growing support for many forms of 'deathmaking' of devalued people, such as those who are impaired, poor, old, or seen as 'costly,' and such deathmaking is already being practiced on a large scale. Deathmaking refers to a wide range of practices, from outright intentional killing to very indirect measures, that abbreviate or end human life.
This two day workshop presents:
- The reasons behind the deathmaking of devalued people, along with the personal and societal dynamics that fuel it.
- The major forms that deathmaking takes in Western cultures today, including the many disguises and concealments that make it less obvious and less repugnant.
- Ways in which those concerned for the well-being of devalued people can protect them from deathmaking.
The workshop proposes that a coherent position against all forms of deathmaking of humans is needed--and rare--and challenges participants to work towards adopting such a position.
Format: The workshop will consist of a series of lectures with visual illustrations, opportunities for questions and discussion, and guided times for personal reflection and self-examination exercises.
